Abstract
Modern agriculture faces challenges such as loss of soil fertility fluctuating climatic factors and an increase in pathogen and pest attacks. The sustainability and environmental safety in agriculture production needs eco-friendly approaches like the use of biofertilizers, biopesticide, green manuring etc. The multiple beneficial effects of microbial inoculants apart from nitrogen fixation need further research and their use in modern agriculture. The effect of inoculants and herbicide (Arelon)on nitrate reductase activity and nitrogen uptake of vegetative parts and yield of wheat crop clearly show that in presence of different inoculants, the NR activity was significantly more than control at all stages of growth.
